The pdfNumberer

A few months ago we released The Numberer, a small utility that uses Adobe InDesign to create PDF files with sequential numbering on the pages.
But there is one "small" problem when using InDesign to create thousands of pages: it takes time, sometimes a lot of time...

So that's why we went one step further: Use InDesign to create a design, but use our own engine to create the PDF files. Yes, this has limitations (no full design in the output) but it creates sequential numbers on pre-printed sheets of paper in a matter of seconds.

A lot of printers use traditional presses to create output, which afterwards needs to be numbered. This can be one or multiple numbers on each sheet, it can be a sequence of numbers on each sheet and so on.

But the output needs to be processed afterwards as well, so you might want to create sets of numbers in a cut-and-stack format. Or not, and create just one plain file with all the numbers in a sequential order.

This is exactly what The pdfNumberer does!
We tried to keep the application as simple as possible:

  1. Create an Adobe InDesign CS4 or CS5 document with the numbers formatted as needed.
  2. Define a label to each number
  3. Select this template in The pdfNumberer
  4. Enter a start and an end number
  5. Optionally define the amount of sheets in a set
  6. Save the PDF with the numbers.

And all this is done in seconds, not even minutes!
